How To: Find a Canvas Center
Goal: find the exact center of a canvas, panel, or sheet of paper — to place a focal point, a grommet, a logo, or a drilling mark.
The trick: the center of a rectangle is the midpoint of its diagonal, and every measurement line marks its 1/2 point for you.
What you need
Two cubes, at opposite corners of the canvas.
Steps
- Press Start and turn on the pivot point (Action - Show the Pivot Point and Axes).
- Pinch‑drag the first cube so its center sits on one corner of the canvas.
- Press Spawn Cube and place the second cube's center on the diagonally opposite corner.
- On the measurement line between them, find the sphere at the middle — that is the canvas center.
- Mark the canvas right under that midpoint marker.
Check it
- Run the other diagonal — place the two cubes on the other pair of corners — and confirm the midpoint lands in the same place. Both diagonals of a rectangle cross at the true center.
- For the height and width offsets, read the AXIS BREAKDOWN between a corner cube and the center.
Working small and precise
A canvas is well within reach, so place slowly with the pivot point lined up on the corners. The midpoint is only as accurate as the two corners. Check your cube placement from multiple angles, and look at your canvas straight-on.
