How To: Measure Your Computer Screen

Goal: measure a monitor or laptop screen — its diagonal (the "size" in inches), its width, or its height.

Note on units: screen sizes are given as the diagonal in inches. Every distance is shown in metric, decimal inches/feet, and fractional inches at once, so read the inch value.

Measure the diagonal (screen "size")

  1. Press Start and turn on the pivot point.
  2. Pinch‑drag the first cube so its center sits at one corner of the glowing image (measure the picture area, not the bezel, to match how screens are sized).
  3. Press Spawn Cube and place the second cube's center at the opposite corner.
  4. Read TOTAL DISTANCE on the measurement window. The decimal imperial value in inches is the screen size (e.g. 27.0 in).

Measure width and height

  • Width: place the two cubes at the top‑left and top‑right corners; read TOTAL DISTANCE, or read the X row of the AXIS BREAKDOWN if the screen faces you squarely.
  • Height: place them at the top‑left and bottom‑left corners; read TOTAL DISTANCE or the Y row.

Tips for accuracy

  • A screen is small and within easy reach, so get close and place each cube's center slowly and precisely on the corner. The reading is only as good as your placement.
  • Measure the active image area for the marketed diagonal; include the bezel only if you want the physical panel size.
  • Cross‑check: the diagonal should be the longest of the three. Add a third cube at a third corner, and the angle window there should read about 90°.
