Action: Move and Rotate a Cube

You place cubes with your hands. Vision Pro uses look‑and‑pinch, so you do not reach out and grab a cube — you look at it and pinch.

Move a cube (one‑hand pinch)

  1. Look at the cube you want to move.
  2. Pinch and hold with one hand (thumb to finger).
  3. Move your pinched hand. The cube follows by the same amount your hand travels.
  4. Release the pinch to drop it in place.

The cube moves as far as your hand does, so small careful motions give fine control. To land a cube on a real feature, nudge it in slowly.

Push a cube out of reach (ratcheting)

You do not have to touch a cube to place it far away. Because input is look‑and‑pinch, you can push a cube past arm's length and keep going:

  1. Look at the cube and pinch with one hand.
  2. Push your pinched hand away from you. The cube moves off in that direction.
  3. Release, then pinch again and push away once more.
  4. Repeat, ratcheting the cube outward, until it sits at the distance you want.

Each pinch starts from wherever the cube is now, so the pushes add up. Pull your hand back the same way to bring a distant cube closer. That lets you place cubes across the room or on a far wall, not just within arm's reach.

Rotate a cube (two‑hand pinch)

  1. Look at the cube.
  2. Pinch and hold with both hands.
  3. Turn your hands as if you were holding and twisting the cube. The cube spins to match.
  4. Release to set the new orientation.

Watch the top / front / right face labels and the colored axes to see how the cube's own directions have turned (see Reading the Cube).

Undo and Redo

The app window carries Undo and Redo once the cubes are out. Undo puts the last cube you moved back where it stood before that move; Redo returns it. The app remembers the last 15 moves.

  • A move that ends where it started does not count as a step, so a press of Undo always visibly moves something.
  • Moving a cube by hand clears the Redo list — you have taken a different path.
  • Destroying a cube forgets its moves, since putting back a cube that is gone would do nothing.

Placing by numbers instead

Hands are quick but never exact. To type a cube's position and rotation in, use the EDIT control on its Local Space card (see Action - Edit a Cube by Numbers). A whole editing session counts as one Undo step.

What updates while you move

As you drag or turn a cube, its readout, its measurement windows, and its angle windows all update a few times a second, so you can watch the numbers change. When you let go, the final values refresh and your layout is saved and pinned to your immersive space.

Tips

  • Line up the pivot point. Every measurement uses the cube's center. Turn on the pivot point and place that center on your target (see Action - Show the Pivot Point and Axes).
  • The cube you last touched becomes the "active" cube. The app window's Spawn Cube button adds the next cube beside it.
  • Cubes keep their true size at any distance — a cube is 10 cm whether it is close or across the room.
