Action: Start, Restore, and Pause a Workspace
Everything you do in Cattail.Nu SpaceCube happens inside a workspace — the immersive scene with your cubes in it. The app window, the flat panel that stays in your Shared Space, is where you open, save, restore, and pause it.
Start (or Restart)
- Press Start to open a fresh workspace with a single cube floating in front of you, about waist‑to‑chest height and an arm's length out.
- If a workspace is already open, the same button reads Restart and clears everything to begin again from one cube.
Use Start when you want a clean slate.
Restore
- Press Restore to bring back the cubes exactly as you last left them.
- Restore only appears when there is a saved layout and no workspace open — with the cubes already out, there is nothing to bring back.
- The app tries to put each cube back on its real physical spot. If it recognizes your immersive space within a few seconds, the cubes land where you left them; if not, they come back arranged in front of you. See Tips and Troubleshooting.
The app window tells you how many cubes are saved and when.
Pause
- Press Pause to put the cubes away without losing them. The immersive scene closes, your layout is saved, and the app window stays put.
- Bring them back any time with Restore.
Pausing is what happens automatically when you open another app; the button just does it on purpose.
Save and open a workspace
Restore only ever remembers your last arrangement. To keep one for good — or carry it to another headset — save it as a file:
- Save Workspace writes a
.spacecubefile with every cube's position and rotation. Each cube is pinned to its real spot first, so the file remembers where things physically were. The button appears once the cubes are out. - Open Workspace reads one back. The cubes come out just as Restore would put them, and that file becomes the arrangement Restore returns to from then on.
See Action - Save Your Data (TXT, SVG, 3D).
Closing the app
There is no Quit button. Close the app window with its own X and the cubes go with it: they are pinned, your layout is written down, the immersive scene closes, and the app ends. Restore on the next launch brings everything back.
Undo and Redo
Once the cubes are out, the app window carries Undo and Redo for cube moves, reaching back up to 15 steps. See Action - Move and Rotate a Cube.
Good to know
- Your layout is also saved every time you move or rotate a cube, so you rarely lose work.
- The count of cubes currently in the scene is shown at the bottom of the app window.
- With four or more cubes out, Show Solid draws the shape that wraps them (see Action - Show, Hide, and Isolate Windows).
